Prisonbreak on the iphone?

After a long break from posting, I have decided to post again after buying an Iphone 3gs 32gb. The first day I got an Iphone I jailbroke it. For those who do not know, jailbreaking is the process of
'hacking' the iphone to allow unsigned software on the phone (ie: software that has not been approved by Apple). This in effect allows endless possiblities for software developers who have access to free reign to write whatever they want. An unjailbroken phone will only accept Apps from the Apps store which have been approved by Apple.

There are actually multiple ways of jailbreaking and iphone and depending what iphone/itouch you have (2g, 3g, 3gs or itouch) you may or may not be able to use one or the other method. The method I am going to introduce will allow all iphone/itouch to be jailbroken with literally a click of a button. I can personally vouch for this method working on the 3gs and many youtube videos and other places can show you proof it works for all other iphone/touch devices.

Blackra1n created by geohot (A genius I might add) can be found on this site. So to get the ball rolling:
1. Backup/sync your phone if you need to save your sms/contacts etc just in case anything will happen.
2. Update your Iphone to 3.1.2 and close itunes.
3. Download blackra1n click the grey windows icon or the apple icon according to your computer
4. Plug in iphone via USB, double click blackra1n, your iphone should go in to DFU mode after the click and the picture on the blackra1n picture should appear on the iphone.
5. Wait till it jailbreaks and once you have you should have a blackra1n app on your iphone.

Transfer much?

As an avid collector of movies and TV shows, I am constantly transferring files all over the place, from different drives to external hard disks. But when transferring a few hundred gigs at one time errors are unacceptable which could lead to corrupted files and loss of time. Instead of using the retarded XP in built file transfer program I use Terracopy(TC). A third party program which speeds up and makes transferring easier. The biggest advantage of using TC is the way it transfers files when you want to transfer multiple files at once. XP will transfer them all of them at once, where as TC will transfer them one by one. That way if one file does fail, it will not cancel your whole transfer. The program has a trial and pro version, with the latter being able to cancel certain files while it is queued and other features listed on their website. The pro version is acquired by payment, or for those who can use a certain torrent site they maybe able to find the pro version for free.

Faster than fast track on Aus TV

Living in Australia USA TV shows used to be released 1 season behind, or even not released at all. It is not until recently that all the channels are "fast tracking" their US line up, usually only 1 week behind. Still if you can't wait (like me) or you are trying to keep up with a series that is not showing in Australia, keep a regular eye on the site I bring to you today. Torrents of US TV shows that were shown at night in the US are posted daily, usually in the morning to afternoons. Sometimes downloading the torrents that just came out might get nuked (nuked: being officially announced that it is a redundant) and therefore it is better to wait for a repacked version (repacked: a version which is fixed up). It is also important to take note of the size of the file, unless you have unlimited quota and bandwidth you don't want to be downloading a massive HD 720 episode of your TV show every week. Regular quality shows are around 350mb for 1 hour/45mins (1 episode) and half that if it is a sit com (30min format).

Chop, Snip, Cut: MSN

Considering all my friends only using msn, I prefer not to use multi-chat programs like Trillian etc, but the Live messenger client is not the best looking thing in my opinion. Not to mention all the pesky ads on the bottom of the contact list and functions I believe should be in built already. The following 2 programs will customize MSN the way you want to work and look.

1. Messenger Plus! Live
This program once installed will become part of your MSN Some functions include MSN skinning, boss protection (hot key to hide MSN in a flash) and MSN locking. There are truly too many features to list here so head over to the website for the full details. But some functions I personally use include tabbed chat conversation and opaque contact list.

2. A-Patch
This program lets you shave ads, buttons or even frames from MSN both conversation windows and contact list. Make sure you match up the version of MSN you are using to the correct A-patch. Its hard to explain what this program is capable of doing so the screen shot comparison should show the differences once you apply the patch.

XP + Vista = XPista?

Out of sheer laziness I have not written a post for a long time. But during my absence I have been doing a lot of research and I have got many updates planned for the blog over the coming weeks. The first update from my return are 3 programs derived from Vista features. Many people say Vista was poorly executed by Microsoft with performance issues and I totally agree, but I must admit there are some features I do enjoy. Here are 3 programs that run in the background to emulate the best features on Vista on XP.

1. Winflip

In Vista you can choose to make your alt tab experience more exciting with screen captures of the programs you are changing to. Similar to coverflow (album art scrolling feature) in Mac products, once you run this program, your alt tab will now emulate Vista's function.

2. Desktop Sidebar
From the onset of rumours that there was a new Windows (longhorn now names Vista) in the making, and screenshots of the OS popped up on the Internet, people were fascinated by the idea of the sidebar featured in the pictures. But once Vista was released people realised that the Vista sidebar was not as great as it had shown to be. From personal experience on one occasion loading the Vista sidebar totally crashed my system. Defeated by Vista's sidebar, I came over "desktop sidebar" a third party sidebar program which runs with less strings and hassles attached with the one in Vista. With the sidebar there are so many functions and uses I cannot list them all, but have a play around with this program if your wanting sidebar that isn't "crapsoft". Keep an eye out for my later post, and I'll show you my personal sidebar configuration.

3. Xentient Thumbnails
A feature on Vista I really do like is icons of pictures are thumbnails of the picture itself. Of course, XP users can choose thumbnails, but they are so big, so i prefer the icon view and now that I have xentient thumbnails the icons are thumbnails of the picture. The developer of this program has now retired these programs, although he still offers them for download there is no support for them. But you never know in the future he may take it off his site so get it while you still can.

Sad smile. Thats the feeling I have at the moment, I sent a tip to lifehacker recently and its niced to see my tip go to lifehacker, but no credit was given. I believe it was so because I had not mentioned the filter tip specifically. Good thing I have screenshot evidence to prove my part in lifehackers post :D.

So the blog I introduce to you today has the slogan "global fusion of fashion and lifestyle" but to tell you the truth its 50% about beautiful Asian women (models, actress etc) and 50% of unimportant stuff. Okay so the other 50% is also worth a read, it talks about fashion, cars and other interesting lifestyle facts. What I really like about the site is its presentation which is very clean and appealing even with its pink background. Co-written by a couple (I assume) this blog certainly gives a good read for both genders and is a perfect read for all people who consider themselves "pretty", you'll see what I mean when you have a look at the site.

Asian media download in english?

Everyone knows how to download mp3 songs and movie clips from the US and UK. But for Asian media, its much harder if you don't read or write the language. This forum based site will have you downloading Asian music in no time. They mostly specialise in Korean, Japanese, Tawain and Hong Kong movies music and usually use website hosting sites to download the media such as megaupload. It require registration and its non exclusive so everyone can join.

Folder size

I was trying to make a witty line, for the title but its just all I can say for what I have for you. So onto the program. Don't you just hate how you have to right click the folder (not file) and click properties to find out the folder size in windows? Well this program lets you add a new column and lets you view the folder size without the tedious method described before. The title literally describes itself so here's the link. I'm all for exercise, my routine usually consists mainly on a finger workout and the occasional stretch when my back gets sore. Okay, so I dont' really do any exercise, I'm not overweight or in poor physical health but I can admit I am not fit. As I was doing my regular finger work out on the computer I found a great little site for a great plan to get fit. The title of the site 100 push ups says it all but for the readers who are too lazy to browse around the site, its a site with information on push ups and its benefits. The best feature of the site is the program that challenges people to take up; be able to do 100 push ups. Fuel Saving 1: Drive more efficiently

With fuel prices at an all time high, there are articles on how to save fuel prices, how to drive more efficiently and talk of alternative fuels. Here on websighting I intend to collect all this information and post it up regularly so keep an eye on this site.

The first issue will show you how to save money by the way you drive. Most of this information is taken from hypermiling websites. Hypermiling you ask? A new term coined from the many drivers who drive so as to maximise the fuel economy of their cars. Hypermiling these days can be done on roads now and will save you with real results. There are even competitions where people "race" to get the most mileage from 1 tank of fuel, most of these cars used are hybrids but this does not stop us average fuel guzzlers from hypermiling.

So lets get started on saving you some money by how you drive!
1. Braking less: if you think about it every time you brake will mean you need to accelerate again. Why waste this kinetic energy in your car and just let it roll to the next traffic light? The key to this tip is to anticipating what is coming up ahead, so if there is a section of road you always take to get out to the highway, practice where you just need to roll to the next turn or traffic light.

2. Accelerate efficiently: All cars need not a driver to floor the accelerator, it has been proven depending on your car that 75% of the throttle is all that is needed for bring a car efficiently up to speed from stop. Another key is to remember there is no need for acceleration during driving downhill.

3. Don't idle: If you stop the car for more than 10 seconds it uses more fuel than to start the car back up. So if you are at the traffic lights just turn the car off, of course keep an eye out for the other direction lanes for your turn to start the car back up.

4. Efficient speeds: Depending on the car, maintaining a certain speed will give you 7-23% fuel efficiency. This is due to the car's drag and also the higher the speed the higher the RPM. It is recommended to test your own car's efficient speed which is usually between 55km/h - 88km/h.

5. Choosing the gears: The higher the RPM the more fuel you burn, so try not to trash the accelerator but for manual drivers, you can choose to change to higher gears earlier. Just remember too low rpm will strain the engine, be sensible.

6. Drafting: Okay so this tip is not really recommended because it entails you tailgating cars bigger than yours so that you can take their slip stream. Essentially it will reduce your wind resistance and it is proven on mythbusters that it will increase fuel efficiency but is high dangerous in real life situations. The results they got saw 35.5mpg at 100 feet and 44.5mpg at 10 feet from the truck but this is obviously not smart in real life. Which leaves me to my final thought.

All these tips save you money, but use only when its safe to do so, what is a few dollars worth to your life, drive safe and drive efficiently!

Okay, so buying second hand things may not be treasure, but for some people buying second hand maybe a smarter and definitely cheaper choice. This is especially the case for overseas students who might need a fridge or bed just for 1 or 2 years. The sites I have for you readers today, are sites similar to Craig's list over in the US.

Quokka online is the Perth based free-ad paper, many may see it on the news stands, but some many not know the online version. The online version I find is much easier to use and search for things as there is a "online search bar" and you can narrow categories down.

Interesting name for an international website originating from the UK, but Gumtree Perth (or any other capital cities) is a free online posting for things ranging from jobs to free stuff. A friend of mine picked up a very nice steal bed for free just cause the owner bought a new one and just wanted it gone. Sometimes the ads might be duds with people just posing a email for you to reply to so they can spam you back I stick with phone numbers to be safe.

Underground media release dates

With the daily releases of movies, tv shows and games torrents who can keep an eye on all the best torrents that are released? The two sites I introduce to you are 2 blogs that provide updates to the most important/interesting tv shows, games, music and movies. This site may not have things you might be looking for but will surely give you things to d/l that you may not have known have come out. Due to the fact that these things are all underground/illegal, release dates of movies, TV shows and even games are sometimes broken and these two sites will be first to tell you.
